Capoeira is much more than just a sport: it is a culture that can be practiced by anyone regardless of their age, background and physical or cognitive abilities.
Mestre Pium’s teacher, Mestre Ponciano, started the Capoeira Especial e Adaptada, Special and Adapted Capoeira Group over 40 years ago. In his academy, students of all background and abilities trained together, ensuring that the teachers that have graduated under Mestre Ponciano have the necessary skills and experience to teach all their students.
Worldwide, capoeira is practiced in a wheelchair, with low or no vision or hearing and by people of all kinds of cognitive abilities. Come to our classes and give it a try! We’ll give you instructions about how to adapt capoeira to your individual needs. If you need an assistant for the classes, please bring one - they will participate for free.
Our special adapted capoeira class is targeted at youth and adults who feel unable to participate in our regular groups. If you can participate in a group lesson with some individual guidance and your assistants support, you are welcome to attend our regular classes. Children under 13 are always asked to attend our regular kids’ classes.
